Found your site from Gretchen’s blog. You deserve huge congratulations for your performance out there – just making it to the start line while juggling a career and a young kid and dealing with a nagging injury is pretty remarkable – and to run the kind of race you did (in between pumping breaks?!) is simply amazing. My goal is always to just make it to the finish line, so I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in race mode for the majority of the race – thanks for the insight on your thought process during the race.

Best wishes to you with future race endeavors – perhaps we’ll meet on the trail someday.

Ahhh Gretch- I know, what is it about TRT in particular that makes one so tied to it emotionally. Maybe cause its home for us? I always leave that trail feeling like its never done, always something to go back and gain, redeem, learn from. And you better believe I will take you up on offering to pace. May I also offer my pacing servies too.. Can’t wait to see you soon on the trails!

Paige- As you can tell, I love this race- I highly recommend a go at it! Hope summer running is treating you well!

Sarah- So glad to meet you! Isn’t FB great like that! Congrats to you on all the success you have thus far in running. I will absolutely check out your blog! See you out there.

Great report and inspiring–and I could relate, having raced Bree! (If you’re curious, you can search the archives of my blog for the Ohlone 50K and Dick Collins Firetrails 50 reports.) You captured the ups and downs so well, and I admire your candor to write about your competitive streak; I love the friendly competition that happens out there. Though I have never run farther than 50M, I hope to graduate to 100K and maybe beyond. Since you’re in SF I hope to meet you sometime, and it seems like we have some mutual friends. Great job!

Like Gretchen said, that’s an inspiring race you had, even if it didn’t turn out exactly as envisioned. You’ve clearly got it in you…everyone better watch out next time! TRT is on my to-do list…hopefully sooner rather than later :) Congratulations!

Every time I saw you out there you looked so strong and I was so impressed. And your race report made me cry. I love this race! But I know how you feel having put it all out there and still feeling like you have unfinished business (even at my much slower pace I felt that at TRT – both times). You have a great perspective, and I can see that it will carry you and motivate you in the future. You should be really, really proud of this race, and everything you have accomplished in the past year!

And when you need a pacer at Hardrock, just let me know!

Sorry you didn’t get that first place, but considering your injury and everything else prior to the race, it’s a miracle that you got the second place at all.
I’m a medioker, mid-pack ultra runner myself, so reading stories like this really inspires me to train harder and dig down deeper during races. I’m off tomorrow to do my first 24 hour race friday to saturday. I’ll have your and other similar stories to help me thru the tough times.
